Google, in partnership with Coursera, is introducing an online Cybersecurity Certificate program with 2000 scholarships for Sub-Saharan Africa. This initiative is designed to equip learners with essential tech skills, thereby boosting the region’s digital economy.
Google’s commitment to enhancing cybersecurity in Africa and expanding access to cybersecurity careers is reflected in this initiative. Through this program, we aim to share our expertise and provide opportunities for individuals to build successful careers in cybersecurity.
The Cybersecurity Certificate program, offered online via Coursera, is designed to prepare learners for careers in the rapidly growing field of cybersecurity. Participants will acquire the necessary skills to identify common risks, threats, and vulnerabilities, as well as learn techniques to mitigate them. Additionally, they will gain hands-on experience using Python, Linux, SQL, and Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) tools.
This certificate program is part of Google’s broader effort to offer career-focused training through online certificates. In addition to Cybersecurity, we offer certificates in Data Analytics, Digital Marketing and E-commerce, IT Support, Project Management, and UX Design. Recently, we also introduced advanced certificates in Advanced Data Analytics and Business Intelligence, building on our entry-level Data Analytics Certificate.
These low-cost programs are designed for individuals who wish to learn at their own pace or transition into new careers without the constraints of traditional education. They can be completed in under six months and do not require prior experience or a degree. Moreover, these certificates are product-agnostic, preparing individuals for jobs in any sector or company.
To date, over 20,000 individuals have graduated from Google Career Certificates programs in Sub-Saharan Africa, with more than 80% reporting positive career impacts such as new job opportunities, salary increases, or promotions within six months of completion.
Google is collaborating with key organizations such as the ICT Authority in Kenya, The Roothub in Nigeria, and RLabs in South Africa to offer these scholarships. These organizations have strong workforce development programs and will support learners throughout their learning journey.
