The American International School of Abuja has reportedly refunded $760,910.84 to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) out of the total amount of $845,852 in school fees that was allegedly paid by former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello for the education of his five children at the institution. It is claimed that this sum was unlawfully sourced from the funds of the Kogi State Government.

However, Governor Bello vehemently denied these allegations and asserted his commitment to resisting any form of manipulation or coercion. He stated unequivocally that he would not succumb to any attempts to subvert the legal process.

Addressing the matter, Mr. Dele Oyewale, the Head of Media and Publicity at EFCC, confirmed the refund made by the school, indicating a significant portion of the alleged payment has been returned to the commission.

Governor Bello clarified that the issue is currently undergoing legal proceedings, emphasizing his stance on transparency and accountability in governance. He maintained his innocence regarding the accusation of misappropriating government funds for personal use, reaffirming his confidence in the judicial process to adjudicate the matter fairly and justly.
